Again, I weep, a poem

again, I weep...

not because something new broke

but because nothing did

the world just kept turning

like it's allowed to

I thought I'd cried the big ones already

the ones that hollow you out

but grief doesn't work like that

it circles back

finds a new door in

a song on the radio

a text I almost send

his name in my mouth before I catch it

so I weep again...

not less than before

just different

quieter maybe

but just as real

I used to think there'd be an end to it

a day I'd wake up done

now I think it's more like tide

it comes in

it goes out

it comes in again

and I let it

because the alternative

is pretending he mattered less than he did

so again, I weep

and again

and again

for as long as it takes

which I'm starting to understand

is forever
