Just one more

The phone lights up...

and it isn't you.

Your messages found me

when I wasn't looking.

No occasion.

Just you, reaching.

Now the silence sits

where your name used to be.

I miss the sound of you.

A laugh that never learned

how to be quiet.

It filled the room

and made everyone give in.

I miss holding you

and being held by you.

You hugged like letting go

was optional.

My arms still remember...

and they don't know

where to put themselves now.

They say time helps.

I don't know what time is for.

It only pulls me

further from the last time

I heard you say "Hey Dad!"

I'm not asking for much.

One more call... one more text.

One more "just checking in."

One more hug.

One more I love you.

Any day.

Every day.

Please - just ONE more.
